June 20, 2025 - Driving to Alaska
Tok to Wasilla/Palmer, Alaska

We departed Tok and headed southwest on Highway One -- also known as the Glenn Highway --  through pretty mountainous country.  .

  It was a beautiful day.

We stopped by the side of the road to look out over a scenic lake.

Our minivan looks like it has travelled all the way from Maryland.

Looking south, we see Mount Sanford, a 16-thousand foot mountain in the distance.

As the Glenn Highway turns southwest, Mount Sanford moves to our left.

Notice how wavy the highway is.  This stretch of highway was probably the worst road condition we experienced the entire trip.

Zooming in on Mount Sanford.

We come to an intersection south of Gulkana Airport.  We turn west towards Palmer, staying on the Glenn Highway.  Only 141 miles to go!  Just a short hop!

We're in a big, flat forested plain now, but we'll be going through the mountains again up ahead.

Getting closer to the mountains.

And we're in.  The Tahneta Pass is up ahead.

We pass by Sheep Mountain Lodge.  We had a nice stay here last August.  Sheep Mountain is very colorful.

A look back at Sheep Mountain.

And then we were in Palmer.  After a quick stop at the Fred Meyer grocery store, we pulled up at Maggie and Beau's house.  We made it!

Look how dirty our minivan is.
